© TRAVEL OBSERVER 2025 About Submission Guidelines

Anyone is free to enjoy and be inspired by Travel Observer. We do however have a few guidelines to help you submit great things!

Who can submit?

Anyone who registers is free to contribute.

What can I submit?

You can submit any travel related story that is represented by an image or a video, but not everything will get published. Travel Observer is curated by an editorial team of journalists, photographers and editors. Our team reviews each submission carefully and selects which submissions to publish. This goes without saying, but nothing too lewd or vulgar folks. Keep that bull to yourselves.

How does one submit?
  • Register. Seriously guys, how hard is it to enter your name and email address?
  • Include an image or video. You can upload an image of up to 250x250 pixels directly to our site. To submit a video, simply upload it to utube or vimeo and include the link in your submission. Easy as pie.
  • Enter a direct link to the story. Links to a site’s homepage will not be considered.
  • Fill in the caption: TO: go somewhere, TO: do something.
  • Attach an itinerary.
  • Assign tags to the story. This will help lead other people to your submission.
  • Click submit and voila. You’re job is done. Sit back while we review for publication.
What gets published?

We appreciate originality and quality. The better the story, photo or video, the better your chance of publication. All stories should include the three components that make up a submission: image, link and caption. In including an itinerary is optional, but favorable. Here are a few more details that might be helpful:

Image:

Size: Despite what you may have heard, size matters. Images up to 250x250 are allowed. You will be able to crop it to the right size and shape with the site's image tool.

Quality: We prefer high quality pictures with no added text or graphical elements. Again, please no borders, text or watermarks.

Subject: Keep it interesting here guys. We love pictures of locals and local elements. While I’m sure your family photos are great, we would rather not see them. We will rarely publish pictures of you, your kids or your sorority.

Video: Compelling is key. We are looking for videos that really give the story a sense of place.

Link: Although it is necessary to have a beautiful or compelling photo or video, it is equally as important that the image lead to some form of original content. We normally will not publish submissions that link to a “middle man,” for instance a site’s homepage or flickr.

Captions: While we appreciate creativity, we are all about uniformity with our captions. To be published, your caption must be written in the following form: TO: go somewhere, TO: do something. Where does the story take place? What is done in the story? Please be as specific and concise as possible, especially with the location.

Itinerary: How did you get there? Where did you stay? Itineraries make it easier for someone else to have a similar experience. Not only do you have a better chance of being published if you attach an itinerary, you will see a quicker response.

A few more details to keep in mind:
  • Please, no duplicate submissions. If it’s already up on our site, chances are we won’t republish it.
  • No Spam. Please refrain from submitting anything that even resembles spam. And remember, if it’s lewd, it’s rude.
  • Always spell check.
  • Keep it interesting. Original submissions are the best way to catch our attention.
  • No text or graphics. Unless it is absolutely essential, we prefer that there is no text or graphical elements added to the image. This includes borders, text, and watermarks.
Notification

Be patient. There are lots of moving parts to this site and we get quite a few submissions. If your submission lacks an itinerary, it will take us about 7 days to get back to you as we have to create one ourselves. If you do submit an itinerary, we will be able to get back to you within 3 days. All in good time, my friends.

Final Words

Travel Observer is only as good as the submissions we get, which is why they are of the utmost important to us. We look forward to seeing what articles, pictures and videos you submit. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Happy submitting!
